Garment-Dyed Sweatshirt · Nine Colors
A small town on Christmas Eve, with every window lit.
Garment-dyed 9.5 oz heavyweight brushed fleece, soft from the first wear.
A small town banked up a snowy hillside on Christmas Eve. A stone bridge crosses a stream that catches the light, lamp posts line the steps that climb up through the village, and cottages with snow-heavy roofs glow from every window. The tree in the square is lit. The little church at the top of the hill has its doors lit too. Pines and holly with red berries and pinecones frame the whole scene. No lettering, no slogan — just the town, and the one night of the year everybody gets home.
The Design
Large front-centered chest print — not a back print
Subject: a snowy hillside village with a lit church, a lit Christmas tree in the square, a stone bridge over a stream, lamp posts and glowing cottage windows
Framed in pines, holly with red berries, and pinecones
No text. There is no lettering, slogan or wordmark anywhere in this design
Technique: a printed graphic, not embroidery and not an applique patch, straight onto the garment color with no background panel
The same town carried across nine garment-dyed grounds.
A village under fresh snow really is quieter, and it is not just an impression. New snow is mostly trapped air, which makes it a porous absorber: sound goes into it and does not come back out, so the ordinary noise of a place — footsteps, traffic, doors — drops away. At the same time the far-off sounds get louder. On a cold clear night the air at ground level is colder than the air above it, and that inversion bends sound waves back down toward the ground instead of letting them rise and disperse. So a church bell at the top of a hill, or a car still working its way along the valley road, carries much further on Christmas Eve than it ever would in July. Close in, silence. Further out, you can hear someone coming.
The holly in the frame is doing something specific too. Holly is dioecious — male and female flowers grow on separate plants — so only a female holly carries berries, and only if there is a male somewhere within range of a bee. A hedge thick with red berries is not one lucky bush. It is two.
The print runs large and centered on the chest, straight onto the garment color — no panel, no frame, not a back print.
A Christmas gift for the person who keeps the house everyone comes back to, for anyone who grew up somewhere small enough to walk across, and for whoever is doing the driving on the twenty-fourth. It is the kind of print that gets worn through the whole season rather than once.

Fabric
Comfort Colors 1566 garment-dyed crewneck sweatshirt
80% ring-spun US cotton, 20% polyester, 9.5 oz heavyweight — substantial, and warm enough to be the layer rather than something under one
Three-end fleece with a 100% cotton face and a brushed fleece interior, warmer than a lighter French terry
Dyed after the garment is sewn, using salt-free pigment dyes; OEKO-TEX certified
Holds its shape through the wash, with almost no shrinkage at home
The graphic will not crack or peel. It is printed flat into the face of the fleece — no heavy vinyl patch, no rubbery texture, no stitching to pull loose
Choosing a Color
This one is lit art, so the ground matters more than usual. Candle and lamp light sits low and amber — roughly 2000 to 2700 K — and fresh snow bounces back 80 to 90 percent of whatever light reaches it almost without tinting it. That is why snow beside a window goes gold while snow under open sky goes blue, and it is the whole effect in this print. On a deep or mid ground the gold has somewhere to come forward from. On a pale ground it has nothing to beat.
Blue Jean. A light washed denim — a winter evening sky behind the village, and the most everyday of the nine. The main image for a reason.
Blue Spruce. Deep botanical green. The pines framing the scene merge into the shirt, so the windows, the tree and the church doors become the only bright things and the town looks like it is lit from inside the garment.
Crimson. Deep true red, and the most openly festive of the nine. The warm light reads warmest here and the snow on the roofs separates hardest.
Chambray. A soft mid blue, like a washed work shirt. The nearest thing here to actual dusk, and it pushes the lamp light forward.
Grey. A true mid grey — the quietest of the nine, and the closest to the sky a real village sits under in December.
Light Green. Soft sage. A gentler, earlier-winter reading of the same scene.
Chalky Mint. A light aqua with a green cast, closer to sea glass than to mint, and the coldest-feeling of the nine.
Orchid. A light dusty lavender — which is close to the real color of snow at twilight, so the warm windows sit against it better than you would expect from a pale shirt.
Butter. A pale warm yellow, and the softest of the nine. The lamp light and the ground are close in tone here, so the pines and the holly lead instead of the lights — choose it only if that is what you want.
Actual garment color may vary a little from the images. Every monitor and phone screen renders color differently, and no two people see it quite the same way.
