Garment-Dyed Sweatshirt · Eight Colors
A cranberry-red sleigh, a load of fresh fir, and bells to announce it.
Garment-dyed 9.5 oz heavyweight brushed fleece, soft from the first wear.
An old wooden sleigh painted cranberry red and trimmed in gold, runners curled up at the front the way they were made a hundred years ago. It is heaped with fresh-cut fir, dark green and dusted with snow, and hung with golden bells that would ring at every bump in the road. Painted in warm, careful detail with the look of a Christmas card somebody kept in a drawer for forty years, and printed large so the grain of the wood and the shine on the bells come through.
The Design
Large front-centered chest print — not a back print
Subject: a vintage cranberry-red Christmas sleigh with gold trim, fresh fir boughs and golden bells
Style: detailed painted illustration with a vintage Christmas-card warmth
No text. There is no lettering, slogan or wordmark anywhere in this design
Technique: a printed graphic — the ink sits in the fleece, straight onto the garment color with no background panel, and nothing is stitched or sewn on
The same sleigh carried across eight garment-dyed grounds.
Sleigh bells were never decoration to begin with. A sleigh on packed snow is almost silent — no hooves clattering, no wheels — and on a narrow road in the dark that was dangerous. So the bells went on, by law in a lot of places, and every family's harness had its own pitch. You could stand at the kitchen window and know who was coming up the lane by the sound alone, long before the lantern came over the rise. Red was the color because red is what you can see against snow at a distance. Everything about a sleigh like this one was built to be noticed on a white road, and that is still what it does.
The Story Behind It
✦ ✦ ✦
The sleigh lived in the barn under a canvas sheet for eleven months of the year, and the twelfth it came out for one job. Her grandfather would hitch it the Saturday before Christmas, drive it up the back hill to where the firs grew too close together, and cut the boughs the trees could spare. Not a tree — they bought the tree in town like everyone else. Just the boughs, for the mantel and the stair rail and the front door.
The children were not allowed up the hill. They waited in the kitchen instead, noses to the glass, and the rule was that whoever heard the bells first got to open the door. She was small and she listened hard, and she won more years than she lost. First the bells, faint and uneven through the trees. Then the red of it between the trunks. Then the whole thing coming down the hill at a walk, piled so high with green you could not see him behind it, only hear him, singing badly.
The sleigh is still in the barn. The hill is still there. She has the bells on a hook by her own door now, and every December she catches herself, for a second, listening.

Wear it for the ones who were always heard before they were seen.
The print runs large and centered on the chest, straight onto the garment color — no panel, no frame, not a back print.
A thoughtful Christmas gift for the one who cuts their own greenery, hangs the bells on the door before anything else goes up, and would rather have the old sleigh than the new car in the Christmas photo. Heavy enough for the cold weeks, and easy to wear from the first snow to the last.

80% ring-spun US cotton, 20% polyester, 9.5 oz heavyweight — substantial, and warm enough to be the layer rather than something under one

Choosing a Color
The design is cranberry red, deep fir green, polished gold and white snow. The red sleigh is what carries it — it shows on every one of the eight, dark or light.
Pepper. A soft washed black, closer to charcoal than jet. The red sleigh and the gold bells glow against it like a lantern on a dark road, which is why the page opens on it.
Blue Spruce. Deep evergreen, the color of the fir in the sleigh. Red on deep green is the most Christmas of the eight.
Grey. A light heathered grey, like a snow sky. Calm and neutral, and the easiest of the eight to give.
White. A soft, warm off-white rather than a bright optic white. The sleigh on white reads exactly like the old card.
Light Green. Soft sage. The fir settles in and the red and gold step forward — a gentler, cottage feel.
Chambray. The palest washed blue, like a clear winter morning. Red against pale blue is crisp and bright.
Blue Jean. A light washed denim. Red and gold both sit opposite blue on the wheel, so the whole sleigh pops here, and it's the easiest to wear year round.
Denim. A dark washed indigo, the sky at dusk in December. Moody and rich; the red carries it.
Garment-dyed colors look softer and more muted in person than on a screen, and each piece varies slightly. That lived-in tone is part of the charm.
Sizing
A relaxed unisex cut that most people wear true to size. Size down one for a closer fit.
Adult sizes only, S to 3XL. Between sizes? We will make it right, free.
Care
Machine wash cold, inside out. Tumble dry low. Avoid bleach, high heat, and ironing directly over the artwork.
First the bells. Then the red between the trees. Then the whole hill coming home.
