The Known Pack began in 2026 at a kitchen table in Littleton, Colorado, with a designer who kept a list of the birds that visited her grandmother's feeder and a question: why does almost every bird on a sweatshirt look like a cartoon? Anya Kutuzov answers it one species at a time — cardinals, chickadees, western tanagers, Anna's hummingbirds, great blue herons, sandhill cranes — illustrated with the field marks, posture and plant companions a birder would recognise, and printed on garment-dyed Comfort Colors cotton and 9.5 oz fleece. About the designer
Anya Kutuzov trained in fashion design and spent years watching birds before she drew one for a shirt. Each design starts outdoors in Colorado — a tanager on an aspen, a junco in the asters, two chickadees in a pinecone wreath — and is worked up as an original illustration, then refined and colour-tested on the actual garment-dyed fabric so the print sits right against washed denim, pepper or light green. She names the pieces the way you'd caption a photograph: A Flash of Red, Stay a Little Longer, Summer Has a Red Head. Read more: Our Story.
