Floral heart-lock print · 80/20 ring-spun cotton fleece · six garment-dyed colors · Comfort Colors 1566 · printed graphic, nothing stitched on
Garment-Dyed Crewneck · Six Colors · Designed in Colorado
An antique silver heart padlock and its key, wreathed in blue and purple hydrangeas and painted in watercolor — with no text.

Shown in Chambray. Garment-dyed fleece, 9.5 oz, soft from the first wear.
The print, color by color.
A heart-shaped padlock in tarnished silver, cast with scrolling filigree and a keyhole set dead center, with its skeleton key hanging beside it. Hydrangea heads crowd in from both sides — blue, periwinkle and a soft violet, every floret four-petaled and no two quite alike, with broad green leaves behind them. The metal is painted the way old silver actually looks: bright along the raised scrollwork, grey-brown down in the recesses, warm tarnish in the deepest cuts. There is no background panel, no border and no words. The shirt color is the air around it.
The Design
Large front-centered chest print — not a back print
Subject: an antique filigree heart padlock and its skeleton key, wreathed in blue and purple hydrangeas
Style: detailed watercolor illustration — soft-edged florals against finely rendered tarnished metal
No text. There is no lettering, slogan, monogram or wordmark anywhere in this design
Technique: a printed graphic — the ink sits in the fleece with no background panel, and nothing is stitched or sewn on

Shown in White. Close up, you can read every cut in the silver.
A hydrangea is the only common garden flower that tells you what is in your soil. The big mophead varieties carry a pigment that turns blue in the presence of aluminum — and aluminum only becomes available to the roots when the ground is acidic. Sweeten the same bed with lime and the same plant, same genes, same cutting, comes back pink. Gardeners have spent a century arguing over coffee grounds and aluminum sulfate for exactly this reason. And the showy parts are not really the flowers at all: those four broad petals are sterile sepals, billboards for the tiny fertile blooms hidden in the middle. A hydrangea head is mostly advertisement — which is a strange and fitting thing to wrap around a lock.
The Story Behind It
✦ ✦ ✦
The box was tin, painted with roses, with a heart-shaped lock on the front no bigger than a thumbnail. It sat on the dresser her whole childhood and nobody could remember what was in it. The key had been missing since before her mother was born, and after a while the not-knowing became the point. You do not force a lock like that, her grandmother said. You wait for the key to turn up.
It turned up in a different house entirely, taped to the back of a drawer in an envelope marked only heart box. Inside were four pressed hydrangea florets gone papery and the color of old denim, and one square photograph of two women on a porch step, laughing at whoever was holding the camera. That was all of it. It had been enough to lock up.

Wear it for whatever you are keeping.

Shown in Orchid. Violet on lilac, the unexpected one.
A gift for a wedding or an anniversary, for a daughter or the oldest friend you have, for the one who keeps things — letters in a shoebox, a ring that was someone else's first — or for anyone who wants a flower print with a little weight behind it. Six soft garment-dyed colors, so there is one to suit whoever is opening it. It pairs with She Transformed and Bloom Anyway, the other botanicals on the same midweight crewneck.

Fabric
Printed on a Comfort Colors 1566 garment-dyed crewneck sweatshirt blank
80% ring-spun cotton / 20% polyester fleece, 9.5 oz — midweight, with a brushed inside and a soft, slightly textured face
Soft-washed after dyeing, so it arrives already broken in
Dyed after the garment is sewn, using salt-free pigment dyes; OEKO-TEX certified
Holds its shape through the wash, with almost no shrinkage at home
The graphic will not crack or peel. It is printed flat into the face of the fleece — no heavy vinyl patch, no rubbery texture, nothing to pull loose
Choosing a Color
The design is blue, violet and antique silver, so it was made for the pale garment-dyed shades — the hydrangeas sit on them as though they were dyed in.
Butter. Soft pale yellow. Warm against all that blue, and the sunniest of the six.
Chalky Mint. Pale cool mint. Fresh and garden-like; the green leaves run straight into the shirt.
Chambray. Soft pale blue, the one on the hero photo. The hydrangea's own color — the quietest match of the six.
Grey. Soft heathered grey. The understated one, where the silver filigree reads sharpest.
Orchid. Soft lilac. Violet on lilac is the unexpected pairing, and the one people ask about.
White. The field-guide page, where every blue is at its brightest.
Garment-dyed colors look softer and more muted in person than on a screen, and each piece varies slightly. That lived-in tone is part of the charm.
